Sold something that they want us to beta test. It does NOT deliver the promised functionality at all. Slow addition of useful integrations. I don’t have paid music on Apple or Spotify. So, those are useless. No Google Calendar or email integrations. No WhatsApp or other messaging integration. No note taking integrations (Google Keep, Evernote). Not useful and even Uber and DoorDash don’t work correctly. So, at least I got Perplexity and an orange paperweight to hold down my post it notes that I thought I would no longer need. Lots of empty promises (also known as “alternative facts”) that remain empty despite assurances that “day one” would have have all the demonstrated features.
drop your vote : POLL R1 for holders
I’m sure I will receive some hatred for this, but I disagree with much of the criticism of the R1. Rabbit has managed to introduce a unique product concept in a very short period of time. In many cases, the complaints I read are actually rooted in the behavior of the Perplexity AI model, and even those are somewhat unfounded, since the operative word is, “Artificial.” The AI LLMs in play are new and unpredictable - even in the hands of their own creators - so it stands to reason that mistakes will be made as the AI “learns” and improves over time.
While the R1 currently has certain usability quirks, those are also improving with each firmware iteration. Many improvements are directly attributable to this very user community, which clearly includes some highly intelligent people as members. At this point, the Humane AI Pin has effectively failed due to clear design issues, power consumption, and above all, cost. Meanwhile, R1 was introduced into production at the projected low cost, and in a short time already delivers some pretty impressive performance - especially when utilized with a cellular connection. This achievement demonstrates integrity on the part of the company’s leadership, as they have honored their commitment to the concept.
I have worked mostly in tech for nearly 35 years, and have served as a product designer and leader for hardware and software. The job is not easy, as it entails a constant struggle against what you want to deliver and what is possible without too many trade-offs. Leaders have a 5 Lb. box and can never place 10 Lbs. in it - so something will have to go.
I see great potential for Rabbit as they iterate on the fascinating concept they have brought to reality. I appreciate the openness of the company’s leadership, and their embrace of community input. I wish the company much success and urge those in the community who are interested to continue making positive contributions.
Looking forward to any improvements over time. I would rate this at base level 1 currently (equivalent to Encarta 1998) so progress will be easy to measure. Ask it to tell you a joke you have never heard before everyday as a yard stick.
I too fell the same in a lot of what you are saying, but this device is unusable.
I need a personal assistant, this was promised as such. My 1998 Palm Pilot does a better job at this.
I would use keep it if at least it could keep a schedule for me.
I’m returning mine today.
I have a box of various old Palm Pilots and still love them. The r1 is different in that it can get over the air updates (like Tesla’s ;>) and potentially, massively improve on the $200 product you originally purchased. The r1 can only get better…
I have just been watching demo videos of Jesse using timers on the r1. They look great.
Hope we get them in this update possibly with alarms, schedule and calendars. That be great.
share the link ?
One or two on here rabbit discord video-demo
They did not even update it this thursday. Wow.
i read somewhere that alarm and timers are not yet ready and without that it wouldn’t worth an update. so they gonna pre long it for a bit. deff not this week from what i saw.
From what I gather that seems to be exactly what most people are feeling right now I do believe and like to believe that rabbit will hear all of this and take some of the feature requests and really work on implementing some of it and I truly think they will I think it’s okay to leave it alone for a while but just as a high note how crazy would it be if they dropped some kind of cool feature like game (or customization features like live wallpaper) to it? By the way any news of an update today? I’d be A okay them skipping if they can give us some cool feature update next week maybe?
Hi @Jacob_Marz ,
Hi @Angus ,
Hi @alex.hent ,
news for the releases and updates are published here:
Thanks
Reading this, i just can’t believe the next BIG THING they are dropping is a timer.
Seriously
yeah thats where i saw it
but still not fixing the unit measures
I share the opinion that the R1 has a lot of potential and it’s great to have a team working dedicated on developing and improving it. I never expected the R1 to be a very useful product from day 1, I just wanted to join the fun as it is developing.
The frustration I share with @Cyclops is the priorities that seem to be chosen in the development of the device. The pitch that resonated with me is that our mobile phones only steal away time from us, instead of making life easier. The Rabbit priorities feel to be focused on entertainment features that only cost time. Single-purpose functions that are already on my phone as apps and easier to use from there. Building out on the LLM features, which ChatGPT does better.
So yes, this is a new device with a new team, I don’t expect a polished device at this stage. But I love the potential and so wish for the Rabbit team that there is focus on realizing this potential without being distracted by requests for more entertainment features (that will consequently be compared by those users to the existing features on their phones).
Hey everyone, I’m closing this thread, and wanted to explain why.
All feedback is valid - including critical feedback. However, this thread has turned away somewhat from the original points due to being quite broad, and become a sort of “catch all” thread for many different individual points of feedback, many of which we want to, can, and will address.
That makes it quite hard for us to parse and follow up on any given point.
In the future, it’s much easier for us if feedback points, including critical ones, can exist in a thread around the given area. That doesn’t necessarily have to be just one point, as long as all the things are related, and clear in the topic. For example, you may well have several points to make about Vision Mode, or the general query mode, and as such they should live in threads dedicated to those features and ways we can improve them. That actually helps us solve these issues and close that loop when we have done so
