Quickly losing interest! My lil rant.

had the same concerns after the os18 Apple intelligence. Already Siri can read your msg, and reply to them, even in whatsapp, with vocal commands :stuck_out_tongue: very curious as i test the beta version and you can command a lot Siri, as open apps, scroll down, open chat with X, etc
adding timers , and reminders, calendar new entree etc

hurry up rabbit, dont be a koala bear :stuck_out_tongue: " competition " is coming strong from the back, dont loose the start :stuck_out_tongue:

I think the biggest things I agree with, are the “making it more of an assistant” which it could be if it had basic things like a timer/reminder/alarm of some kind.

Also, the battery draining, I agree with, since while on standby, its battery can range from great to mediocre at best.

IMO, I would use the r1 in the place of my phone, if the r1 could

  1. Set timers and alarms
  2. Send/get basic messages (I use discord)

Outside that, for me, everything else is a “nice to have”

Some people got the r1, because it was a cool idea.

Other people got the r1, because they wanted what it could do, and wanted to get away from using their phone as much.

I’m in that second camp.
Hell a big part of the sales pitch was about how cluttered phones are, and how apps can be a blessing and a curse.

So, I’m happy to tinker, Test, and wait for features

100% agree, the price is not at all an issue. 1 year of perplexity is already worth the 200$ imo. however, it really deeply pains me owning useless newly produced hardware. e-waste is a big problem, and I really don’t like the idea that 600k little pocket devices have been made if they are just sitting in peoples drawers not being used - which this thread confirms is the current case.

I am still opimistic that the device can become useful. I really hope it will. For me, it’s all about that teach mode.

The advertisement that came this spring is misleading.

I tried to email myself a food recipe, because I saw a demo where you could ask the r1 to email you the things you wanted. Response was emailing is not supported?

This product has potential but now it is like an early ChatGPT application similar to GPT 2.0 in terms of functionality. Too often it cannot answer properly.

I asked also the other day, can you recommend me some new movies on Netflix. Yes it could, and all were from 2019. That was the last decade. Come on…

Hey, at least when I ask the r1, how many r’s are in the word strawberry, it does better than chatgpt 4o xD

Wish I could tell you the last time I turned mine on but I don’t remember. If I can’t teach it things then its useless to me.

Guessing you were one of the first batch of buyers?

I know there were 2 major press releases for the r1
The initial one, where they talked about the core concept of the device, and the second one where they broke down the timeline, including that the teach mode won’t be available to everyone for a while.

Tesla builds this into every car for FSD, hope r1 is up for this challenge

Simon, just to point out one flaw with this view point. Survivorship bias!

The R1 support team reached out to me on Twitter this week, and asked if the excel feature was working as expected now. My response was I had stopped asking the R1 to do it. That doesn’t mean I don’t want the feature but I’ve moved on as it just wasn’t working.

Yes I was.

I hate to agree. Mine was “born” in April and I find I’m using it less and less but trying to test it every other day. The Door dash LAM just doesn’t work for me even though I’m connected to it. I’m starting to lose interest as well. I’ll say that it is quicker for me to generate basic midjourney images than using it through discord, but even Suno is better and faster on the website. I had high hopes and still do, but it’s not the device I hoped it would be.

i agree with this, some days i use my r1 and its just

When I first saw this product I got excited. Now, I’m just an average Joe that love tech. I watched the presentation video and I do understand what the r1 is suppose to be. I ordered it and couldn’t wait for it to arrive and when it did I watched the video again and then dove into the r1. I did connect apple music but then I quickly realized that that was all there was. I was disappointed but I will wait and see what happens over the next few months. If it ever becomes what they are promising, it will be an awesome product. However, until it can do things that my iphone cannot, it’s like people say, just a paperweight.

I used my r1 for maybe half a day… not it just sits in my car not even charged anymore…I was so hyped pre release…now it just feels like a huge let down. Guess I’ll have to wait a few years.

If I am honest this thing was a huge disappointment to me. I waited so long to get it and since I had it I’ve asked it 2 questions and both were wrong and everything else in this device requires some sort of paid service. This is barely a decent paper weight at this point. Nothing from the videos they show works. I could care less about all these gimmicky paid services where are the basics?

Well, if you find any please share, i’m also looking for them.
But beware, asking this question will summon a lot of people claiming you are an early adopter, and r1 is getting better every day, and when you complain about how R1 feels off, you just show the world you had a misconception of the product and do not understand how such business works, as it will take a lot of time and efforts to deliver what was shown in the Keynote.

Fortunately for us, Rabbit inc.'s CEO himself said the exact opposite:

Siri on Apple devices seems more high tech AI than the r1 who mostly says it cannot do stuff due to “policy” (or being politically correct).
