How is R1 not just a toy? Because it really is just a toy...

Been following R1 since Jan of this year. It is 9/30/24 and I attempted to record three important meetings. One worked and the other two failed and completely lost the recordings. I executed each recording the same way. This has convinced me to stop using the R1 for any tasks that are important. Ok, then if I am not using the R1 for important tasks then I guess I am using it “just for fun” as a toy.

My question is : If I cannot depend on this device to perform tasks that are rather common today, how is the Rabbit R1 not just a toy if it is not dependable?

Sorry about this

The solution that we are working towards here is to enable local storage / caching for the meeting assistant, so that if the connection fails or drops, it can proceed when it is restored. I don’t have an ETA on this just yet but I’ll share more news when I have it.

I have had my r1 for about 6 months now. Read all the negative reviews from new users, and decided to give it a chance. I look at it as a work in progress. I love the recording meeting function, do realize it’s not 100% reliable yet so won’t use it in cases that are critical, I expect it will improve with time.

What I really love is that it is not part of my iPhone. When driving in my car and a question comes to mind I can pick r1 up and PTT without looking. I could use Siri but it often refers me to a web site. I love the long answers r1 gives me and I don’t have to look at the screen. I appreciate that all the other apps on my phone aren’t listening in to my r1 conversations. No ads pop up! I love how I can correct it and ask it to check the web if it can’t find an answer.

I expect with time it will continue to improve. I have it with me all the time. I ask it questions and love how I can make follow up questions, without restating the original question. It has been really fun and insightful.

Are there issues that I can complain about? Sure, but It has already exceeded my expectations. It has found me some shopping discounts on items I never see on sale.

I had my daughter’s car in the shop for an oil change. The shop gave me a heads up that there are some issues with the engine on her make and model. I searched with rabbit and it described some of the tell tale signs that her engine might be defective. Driving home it did exactly what rabbit said the defective engines are found to do. We have an appointment to have it looked at, at her dealer. R1 just might get us a new engine!! Love that rabbit.

When the shop told me the car needed spark plugs I asked r1 how difficult a job it was on my make and model. It told me it was moderate and told me what tools I would need and asked if I wanted directions to do the job!! Saved me $350 bucks.

I have had more fun than I could ever had imagined with r1 and got two of my friends to purchase units too. I want this company to survive so that I can enjoy the ride!

I was wondering about this for a while… it’s nice to hear you are aware of problems like this.

I’ve also lost some recordings and still think there are some major UX problems.

But I also hope the R1 will become more like a toy… like an AI assistant sandbox where you can create anything.

I don’t think rabbit will be able to compete with Google and Apple if they don’t try to differentiate themselves in a unique way with a niche.

The Flipper zero is an example of a great device with a clear niche.

Thanks… learned my lesson and I will wait for more stability. I totally support you guys. Just was unable to put a leash on a frustrating moment.

Hi @SemperAugustus ,

thank you for your information.
I can feel it, that a connection issue is very bad, especially to save recorded meetings.

A few days ago I mentioned the suggestion here to use the local storage of our rabbit r1 to save the meetings records on the local storage at first.

As @simon said, the development team is working on a solution. Thank you for this in advance.

I like toys!

Actually, imo it’s a whole playground and the R1 is your ticket to ride.

The way things are now, I believe it’s mosly expectations that feed frustrations. The R1 team releases stuff early. I love that; I like to play with new toys. But this is clearly a product in development, I would not use it for essential tasks (this applies to any currently available AI-powered automation for that matter).
