Bluetooth Keyboard support

Bluetooth keyboard support as been improved as of the latest OTA, but there still persists a small bug.

When you’re using the BT keyboard and the cursor is shown on the input line, you can type. If you hit enter and send the prompt, the cursor doesn’t reappear and as such you can not type on the keyboard until you touch the screen.

I still haven’t been able to successfully pair my BT keyboard :frowning:

Hi rooski, do you have the ability to try a different KB? I have three and only one connects. I’m wondering if it has something to do wwith the BT version even though they should be backward compatible. Additionally I haven’t been able to find information on what version of BT my KB is using so this is just a guess.

Same here.

I tried to connect three different bt keyboards and none of them worked.
I used an older small keyboard from Logitech, that doesn’t work.
I used an Apple Magic keyboard, that doesn’t work.
And I used a newer keyboard from Logitech, an MX Mini Keys.
He finds that, but he needs a registration code that is not displayed on the Rabbit, so I can’t connect that either.

I have a good connection, keyboard working fine and reliable.
Just need to have the option to use an AZERTY instead of QWERTY (which is obviously super annoying to type in qwerty with a an azerty…)

same here and yes this is very annoying tbh. It was very helpful to use the rabbit for general questions with keyboard while working, but clicking every time on the device is annoying! +1000

For people that has issue pairing, I had it too (with an nuphy) trying to pair with usb-c connected worked like a charm instead.

Same here. I’m using a Logitech MX Keys S which can switch between 3 devices. 2 are occupied by by my work- and private laptop. I wanted to use the 3 rd slot for my r1. In the settings I see the LT device but when I press “Connect” it returns with an error after some time. It should actually show a dialog after connecting to enable pairing. And no, I do not have another BT keyboard to check. I checked with LT support but they do not have a solution. They just stated the my BT keyboard supports:
Windows 10, 11 or later
macOS 11 or later
Linux
Chrome OS
iPadOS 14 or later
iOS 14 or later
Android 9.0 or later
and told me to raise the issue with the Rabbit R1 people.

Works fine for me. I connected a low cost bluetooth keyboard that I got from Amazon.

I did some more testing and connected my Logitech MK540 Wireless Keyboard to the r1. This keyboard comes with a USB receiver (USB A), so I used USB A Female to USB C male adapter to connect the receiver with the r1.

I got this keyboard on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-MK540-Advanced-Wireless-Keyboard/dp/B086K2DFZG/

I tried your suggestion with the unifying receiver from Logitech but was not successful. The unifying receiver that came with my Logitech MX Keys S keyboard doesn’t have an activation button to put it in pairing mode. Instead you are required to download the Logitech Options software to put it in pairing mode.
A question on the side: When using the Unifying receiver you have to switch off the R1 bluetooth settings, otherwise you would have two bluetooth receivers active, right?

Is there a list of BT keyboards (portable i would say) that works properly with R1? @simon can you help with that? Thanks in advance for the support

Can we get a key like (esc) to toggle terminal mode with the keyboard?

Also when disconnected terminal mode will not activate at the moment :joy:

The caret bug is also still there…

A keyboard PTT key would also be great.

Any support in this? What are the key feature to be sure keyboards will work with R1?

So unfortunately there’s so many different brands out there that it’s pretty hard to say which ones work and which don’t unless a community member can vouch for them.

So I’d recommend just getting one that others can confirm works.

I wondered what would work. @Chris confirmed the Black Berry 9900 Keyboards this group makes work. I had to get on wait list then was notified within a short time.

I’ll link the USB one as I can confirm that one works. Chris uses the BT version which is on there too. (And this thread is mostly about!) Don’t forget a battery if get BT! They are easily found on Amazon even.

Blackberry BB9900 USB Keyboard with trackpad from ZitaoTech on Tindie

I got lost and ordered the USB in a slip, but did want the USB anyway. On and off with my BT and forgetting it would kill me.

Things that could be fixed -

  • Needing to touch the screen every “New Line”
  • Removing the USB - so I could switch to the special character that I couldn’t get pushed on keyboard to get Softone, removed my Prompt… if we could have that not happen that would be great.

Hi @graus85 ,
some tests of keyboard models are mentioned in the following thread:
>> Helpful keyboard usage

Maybe this can support you with your question.
